No comments :
When one connects to the Internet, a bunch of useless applications knowingly or unknowingly installed by you also gets to access the network. These types of applications are more in Windows 8 than its predecessors. They not only increases your data usage but also cripples the speed of your network. If  you are using Dial-up modems to connect to the network this hurts you most.A quick and easy fix is available for this problem by configuring windows firewall to only allow your browser to access the web and blocking everything else. Here's how to do it:

.Go to Control Panel and select 'Windows Firewall'

.Select 'Advanced Settings'

.Select 'Outbound Rules'
.In the list find the names of applications installed in your system such as maps, games, finance, bing etc.Right click on them and select 'Disable Rule'(In the screenshot they are already disabled)

.Click on 'Windows firewall with advanced....'

.Select 'Properties'

.Change the setting of outbound connections to 'Block'. Do the same process  in 'Private Profile' and 'Public Profile' tabs and choose 'OK' to close  this window(At this stage all outgoing connections from your computer are disabled. To test this go to your favorite browser and load any page it should show an error)

.Go to 'Outbound Rules'
.Select  'New Rule...' and click 'Next'
.Click on 'Browse' and browse your Internet browser's .exe file.If you are using Firefox,it is usually located here "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" and click 'Next'
.Select the option 'Allow the connection' and click 'Next'
.Make sure all 'Domain','Private' and 'Public' options are selected and click 'Next'

.Give your new rule a Name and click 'Finish'

Now you are all done! Only your browser will be able to access Internet. If you want it back to normal click on 'Restore Default Policy' and choose yes from the dialog box.
